Basics of Laparoscopy and hands on sessions on porcine specimen
This guide introduces surgical trainees to the fundamentals of safe Minimal Access Surgery (MAS). While not a comprehensive overview of MAS, it provides a focused approach to learning one correct and safe technique for each procedure. It is obvious that it does not impose or promote the techniques demonstrated as being the ONLY way, but does endeavor to teach one safe method. There is a strong emphasis on individual attention and feedback on the course will be much appreciated.
The main features of the course are :
1] Lectures on
I) Laparoscopic Imaging system
II) Access in MAS
III) Physiology of pneumoperitoneum
IV) Energy sources used in MAS
V) Complications of MAS
2] Practical exercises to master
a) Instrument handling
b) Depth perception
c) Hand eye coordination
d) Laparoscopic suturing
e) Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy on animal model
