NTMC
The National Trauma Management Course
The National Trauma Management Course (NTMC) is a standardized, two-day continuing medical education program conducted by the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka. It is designed to establish a common, systematic approach to the initial assessment and management of injured patients.
Aligned with the curricula of the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC), the course emphasizes the “golden hour” principles—prioritizing life-saving interventions and stabilizing patients for definitive care. It serves as a critical platform for multidisciplinary team training, bringing together surgeons, physicians, and nurses to practice coordinated trauma resuscitation.
In the Sri Lankan context, the NTMC is a mandatory certification for specific postgraduate trainees, ensuring that specialists entering high-acuity fields are proficient in trauma protocols before completing their Board Certification.
